Coal production stops due to rain

At least 18,000 tonnes of coal production has been halted due to rain water gushing into open cast mines in Mancherial district, in Telangana. The local Pranahita river, in Kotapalli mandal of the district, is in spate, disrupting traffic flow. The river water is flowing into houses in lowlying villages. Heavy rains in upper reaches of the river in Maharashtra as well as rains in the district from the past two days has caused the river to swell. Streams and rivulets in the region too are flooded.
