Stressing the need for strict implementation of statutes that were enacted to prohibit tobacco products, the Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the Centre and the Telangana government to spell out their stand on a petition challenging the ban on sale of gutka and pan masala in the state.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan issued the order while dealing with the petition by Unique Tobacco Products which argued that there is need to bring these tobacco products under the Food Safety Act.
