To ensure that regular functioning of government hospitals is not hampered due to Kanti Velugu programme, the State government has decided to recruit unemployed MBBS and AYUSH doctors on a temporary basis to assist eye specialists for a period of six months.The Health Department has already issued necessary guidelines and District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) concerned are entrusted with the responsibility.
As per the latest guidelines, DMHOs have issued notifications inviting applications from eligible candidates and unemployed MBBS/AYUSH graduates to work in teams for Kanti Velugu programme. In all, more than 400 doctors are being recruited for the purpose. The employment will be for six months period starting from August 15, the day when the scheme will be launched by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao across the State.
“The appointments are being made purely on a temporary basis. Unemployed qualified doctors will be roped in to participate in the eye camps. We will also take up the appointment of paramedical staff on a temporary basis and necessary guidelines were also issued in this regard,” an official in the Health Department .
The officials said eligible candidates would be selected directly and would be paid a monthly salary of Rs 30,000 for which necessary approvals were issued by the Finance Ministry. “The idea is to ensure that the routine medical services are not hampered in the name of the eye tests which will be conducted for six months. After initial screening by these teams, needy patients will be referred to the government hospitals for necessary treatment,” the official added.
About 799 teams, each comprising an MBBS doctor, an optometrist, ANM and others, will conduct eye tests. Services of ANMs and ASHA workers also will be used. The government has also identified about 114 government and private eye hospitals to perform surgeries on needy patients. Necessary eye drops, medicines, 34 lakhs spectacles have been kept ready and will be dispatched to the districts. The officials said 114 private and government eye hospitals were identified for conducting operations.
