Use new technologies in farming: Agriculture minister

Telangana Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Thursday called on farmers to adopt new technologies to improve crop efficiency and yields.Speaking after inspecting the working of paddy transplanters at the Prof Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University at Rajendranagar, the Minister said farmers were free to choose the kind of paddy transplanters they want and the government will not prescribe the manufacturer they can purchase from but will provide the subsidies for the equipment.

He said using mechanical planters will reduce the time required for transplanting, ensure even growth and simultaneous harvesting of the crop across a given area. The Minister also drove a transplanter to experience for himself how it functions.The event was attended by many farmers, various officials of the university and the agriculture department.
