Thu, Oct 05 : Union Oil Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has urged the states to cut Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices, at least by five per cent. This is in view of lowering the burden on end consumers, he said.

The Centre has done it's duty by lowering the Excise Duty. As such the prices of petrol and diesel has come down by at least Rs. 2 to Rs. 3 in all states. States are charging from 20 to 25 per cent VAT on both petrol and diesel. If this is reduced by at least five per cent, it would further lessen the burden on consumers, he observed.
