City traffic police have cracked the whip on shop-owners and traders of the Police Shopping Complex in front of RTC Bus Station Complex here for encroaching footpaths and causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

In a special drive on Wednesday, all encroachments were removed.

Compounding the problem, the police had erected a barricade allowing autorickshaws on the busy main road on the other side.Responding to the news item, the traffic police had on Tuesday instructed all business establishments of the complex that had extended up to the footpaths to remove the illegal structures.

As the shopkeepers failed to comply, the cops swung into action on Wednesday and removed the encroachments, hoardings, hangings, display material etc. that had been covering the footpaths.

The police also made the traders remove illegal extensions of their shops.
