A student from Osmania Medical College, Yegurla Jatin, secured first rank in the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) DM Gastroenterology Entrance Test. It is estimated that close to 700 students from different parts of the country vied for four seats to pursue Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course.

After completing MBBS from OMC, he joined PGIMER-Chandigarh to pursue postgraduation in internal medicine. There, he spent around 16 hours a day attending classes and treating patients.

Hectic preparation

“I spent the same amount of time for three months before the AIIMS entrance test,” said Dr. Jatin, who is on a two-month break before he joins the three-year DM course that starts from July.

Born in Hyderabad, Dr. Jatin aspired to pursue a career in medical profession after being inspired by his mother, who is also a doctor.“The overwhelming response that she received from people and the way they used to express their gratitude for her voluntary work inspired me,” he said. After completing the DM course, the young doctor has plans to make advanced gastroenterology services affordable and accessible to all in Telangana, especially those who are from financially-weaker backgrounds.

His wife Vidiyala Pujitha recently completed postgraduation in radio diagnostics from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and is on a break. Dr. Pujitha said she too intends to pursue the DM course in future.
