Being the youngest recruiting body in the country has not stopped the Telangana State Public Service Commission from becoming a role model for several States.Three years after it started notifying vacancies, the TSPSC is set to fill up over 40,000 vacancies in the State government by December. This apart, using the latest technology, the TSPSC has changed the way recruitment is done. It has taken up path-breaking initiatives such as conducting computer-based recruitment tests, one-time registration, and setting up a command control centre for monitoring exams among others. These initiatives have not just been lauded by the Union Public Service Commission and other PSCs, but several States have even come forward to replicate them.TSPSC Chairman Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani speaks about achievements, recruitment and future plans of the PSC.

Recruitments so far: The TSPSC was formed in 2014 and started issuing notifications from 2015. Already, over 13,780 posts were filled and recruitment for another 19,329 posts is in the final stages. By December, the PSC has decided to fill up 40,921 vacancies that have been permitted by the government. The Union Public Service Commission takes about a year to complete recruitment to about 1,000 to 1,500 posts. So far, no PSC in the country could complete recruitment to 40,921 posts in just three years.

On one-time registrations: There is a huge response from candidates seeking government jobs. Close to 25 lakh aspirants have registered with the PSC through one-time registration. In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, candidates used to visit the commission for registration, hall tickets and result among others. Now, everything is online, including registrations, hall tickets, result, and web options. Only candidates who get selected will have to visit the PSC for attending an interview.

On plans to set up an IT centre: The PSC plans to turn into a smart office by establishing an Information Technology centre on its premises. However, lack of space has become a problem as the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission is still occupying space in the same building.
